Wild Wyoming

Dad had a conference at the University of Wyoming. Mama and Gus tagged along and Gus tried on the hat of his adventure-seeking, fun-loving, name-sharing counterpart cowboy Gus McCrae from the Lonesome Dove series.

Plane Ride

Gus LOVED flying. Laughed the entire time and became a minor celebrity on Alaska Airlines flights 233 and 537.

Washington State Caucus (Hint: Yes We Can!)

From top:
*The gathering of our precinct at the Democratic Caucus
*Matt on the stump for Senator Barack Obama
*Matt elected a delegate for Obama! Gus looks on as Daddy signs his acceptance.
*Democracy is exhausting.

Ten Months!

Per his well baby visit today, he is 25 pounds, 30 inches long, with a head the size of a 2-year-old's with six teeth in it. His "hair" is red, his eyes are green, his heart is golden.

Gus loves:
nursing
being read to (especially turning the pages)
music
picking apart knots in string, ipod ear phones, hoodie ties, etc.
looking at babies
hugging
rubbing heads with Mama
eating fish, Indian food, greens, yogurt, and beans
mobility (even limited, wobbly mobility)
jokes (even limited, wobbly jokes)
cell phones
baths
aquariums
copying the noises you make

Gus does not love:
The Carseat
between 6:30 and 9 p.m.
having something amazing, like an electrical cord, taken away
mashed potatoes (I know, weird, right?)

Gus Can:
Wave hi, give "fives," clap at funny and exciting things, make a couple of signs
Seems to have a very consistent and appropriate-context word for his Daddy and Louise (the dog)
Crawl backwards, pull himself up, get back into sitting from being on his tummy, side, or back
Look to things (accurately) when asked "where is . . . ?"
Respond appropriately to routine questions
Make baby jokes by defying the appropriate, routine response to something and then laughing
Undo his diaper to much hilarity
