It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Many of you have been asking about our new neighborhood in Columbus. It's called German Village (the village). It's the oldest neighborhood, settled by Germans in the 1850s. The Germans made everything out of brick so all the sidewalks, narrow streets and alleys, residences, and businesses are brick. There is enough brick in German Village that if you laid all the bricks end on end, they would wrap around the earth twice. I made that fact up, but it could be true. It's right in the middle of the city, but feels tiny and old world, like Ichibod Crane might come clomping down the (brick) streets, headless, at any moment. There is a big park in the middle (entrance to park in photos) of the village which is lovely. All the brownstone houses are all right next to each other and have lots of stained glass, ironwork, and hitching posts for horses. The last three pictures are our brownstone, our stained glass window which looks into Gus' playroom, and then the "stained glass" Gus and I made, along with a giant mess of grated crayons and wax paper.
